We regret to announce that David Sky, a long time member and contributor to Audacity, and co-founder of AudioNyq.com, passed away on October 4th 2009. David was 46 years old.

Throughout his life, he fought diabetes courageously, and even when he eventually lost his sight, he continued to help others, especially the members of Audacity, by writing many plugins, and providing assistance to all who needed help.

The many plugins and software he wrote will live on at AudioNyq, to remind us of a wonderful, generous and selfless man. He will be sorely missed.

David Sky was an active contributor to Audacity over the years.

David recently passed away from complications from his diabetes.

Please keep him in your prayers.

David wrote and maintained many plug-ins for Audacity, a fantastic feat for
someone who was unsighted.

We will all remember him. He will remain "alive" in the many plug-ins which we
still use.

I thank you for you letting us know. His work with the plugins was exceptional
not only because of his medical condition but because of the number and quality.
He will be missed - I hope that a notice will be put on the Audacity main page.

Wow -- real shock. He and I had been writing back and forth privately and were
having some interesting discussions. He had sent me some of his music he had
created and it was enjoyable. I hadn't heard from him for a while, but I'm so
used to email "pen pals" that chat for a while, then just can't keep up that I
didn't even think he might be ill. There were also times when he was busy so I
might not hear from him for a while, so I didn't think it was unusual he had not
written for a time.

He was intelligent, interested in a wide variety of subjects, and just a general
all-around-great guy. Even though he was blind and would never be able to watch
any videos of me, he liked discussing my love and fascination of ballroom dance
because of all that I could tell him that it taught me and how it effected me on
other levels. He could not only ask questions that made me think and learn more
from what I said, but could get a lot out of it himself as well, even when we
were talking about something very visual that he would never see.

Thank you for letting us know what happened.

I will miss him and his emails.

Hal

This is also a big shock to me. I had a very similar friendship with David as
Hal outlined. We would discuss audio, podcasting, and Audacity on a
semi-regular basis. He helped a great deal on my Audacity training
presentation/slides. He will be missed.

I never met David but worked with him for several months on a Nyquist routine
for finite impulse response filters. He did the Nyquist; I helped with the DSP.

He was fun to work with. We made a lot of progress but never finished and then
I got sidetracked with issues here at home.

I always expected that we would get back on that project and finish it. I am
grateful to have known him and ache to realize that we won't ever finish what
we started.

I always read his postings. I will miss him
